Silver Signet Ring

In late 2017 we started to use new technology at started to use CAD (Computer Aided Design) and this was our first attempt.

We have invested in new equipment that allows us to CAD a design, print a prototype of that design, and then go onto cast the design in any precious metal, all in house.

This silver signet ring was our first attempt to complete all steps together in one process in house on our dedicated casting room on the third floor of the workshop.

We continued to develop our techniques through 2018, and early in 2019 started to offer this service to customers to reuse their existing unwanted jewellery, and have it cast into a new piece.

The process
1) CAD the design
2) Rapid protype the design using a sophisticated 3d printer (we currently have 4 printers)
3) Invest the design (place in a flask with investment which is like plaster of paris)
4) Bake in a kiln to burn the prototype out, leaving a void of the item
5) Melt the precious metal
6) Pour the metal into the void in the flask in a vacuum
7) Clean up the casting
8) Final polish

This ring was never sold, and is kept by us as a momentum to our first completed design.
