Full Eternity Ring set with 2.15ct Old Cut Diamonds

This was a very enjoyable job that we all liked working on.

We were presented with a full eternity ring that was in a very worn condition with 1 missing diamond.

We were asked to replicate the old ring by remaking the design by hand in platinum, however not replacing the missing diamond but respacing the current 18 diamonds.

We handmade the plain band, and then drilled the 18 holes for the diamonds. The square back holes were all cut by hand as shown in one picture, and in another picture, you can see the ring with 2 more holes to cut.

The platinum full eternity was being set with 18 old cut diamonds with a total weight of 2.15ct of old cut diamonds that were very beautiful, and unique in their irregular shape.

Old cut diamonds are all irregular in shape, so each hole had to be cut individually by hand to fit every individual diamond. In addition, each diamond would only fit into the hole in the exact orientation that the hole was cut. This part of the job was very time consuming.

Each diamond was then set with a grain style setting, and to fill in the extra space created by respacing the diamonds we placed a few hand cut grains between each diamond.

Due to the lack of room inside the ring for a hallmark due to the back holes we decided to place a discreet hallmark on the side of the ring.

The last finishing touch to the ring was to hand engrave the side of the ring and engrave around the hallmark. If you bear in mind that the side of this ring is only about 2mm depth, so hand engraving was challenging.
